A Grammar of Ornament - A Łuczak & S Chou

Anna Maria Łuczak and Sabrina Chou - Our Guest Artists from September to December 2014.

Their exhibition A Grammar of Ornament at the Museum of Jakobstad (Malm House. Storgatan 2-4) opened 22.11 and goes until 13.12.

The Malm House is currently hosting artists Sabrina Chou and Anna Łuczak, who present their services of interior decorating alongside an exhibition in the marbled dining room. Formerly the home of shipping magnate Otto Malm, the house was established as an historic museum centered on Jakobstad and maritime matters in 1904.

Here, the deployment of the decorative extends from ornamental embellishment, surfaces, finishings, and furnishings to include minor structural changes in grammars of display. The décor is inflected with the immutability of marble, the glint of gold, and the high-speed potential of chroma-key green.

Interior decorators to a curated past. Wallpaper is just a premise.

Cesare Pietroiusti "An expanded concept of drawing"
Galleri GRO 21.11.2014 - 24.1.2015

"An expanded concept of drawing" in process
In Galleri Gro Cesare has worked with a group of students from Fine Art Department/ Novia: Emilia Kannosto, John Sjöberg, Valter Kuni, Anna Holmlund, Niclas Kangas, Eleonora Hagström, Tanja Fagerholm, Nicoline Aspvik, Mikaela Boxström, Michel Ruths, Marja Seppälä, Benjamin Forsell, Kristiina Hallantie. The concept of the workshop "An expanded concept of drawing" is to explore and experiment, through a group work, different options and possibilities for conceiving, producing and distributing drawings: repetitive patterns, preterintentional or random ways of crating images, projective interpretations of shapes, playing with the title and/or the signature and/or the caption of the drawing, imagining alternative ways of distribution and drawings made for senses other than visual, inventing specific obstructions or variations on given themes, playing with the invisible, using words or texts as elements, giving value to mistakes etc.

The first part of the workshop is dedicated to the exploration of these ideas and sharing information on relevant references.  The further discussion will bring us to new possibilities, and after that we will start producing big number of drawings. The drawings, starting from the day of the opening, will be distributed to the public according to modalities that will be decided during the workshop. The opening itself, on the other end, rather than just a moment of exhibition will be a sort of continuation of the workshop that can be joined by interested members of the public.

Resurrection of the blog

This blog has been criminally inactive for a criminally long period. But luckily it's not the blog that runs the residency. In other words - we haven't been as inactive as it may seem.

During the upcoming days and weeks we'll post a little bit of information about what we've been up to during the silence of the blog. We will of course also stay tuned to ongoing and upcoming projects of this residency.
