Swedish Artist Klas Eriksson Presents his work on Tuesday 20.11. 15.30PM

Statement:

Klas Eriksson is interested in control, power and limitations. He expresses himself through performance, video and sculpture.

Klas Eriksson’s point of departure is mass-culture, where, employing various strategies, he explores our notions of authenticity, power and artistic expression.

Klas Eriksson has always enjoyed doing his own thing, establishing a communicative immediacy, which is both visually and conceptually innovative.

His works often borrow their expressions from popular culture, subculture and various power structures.

Other sources of inspiration include: Marina Abramovic & Ulay, Vito Acconci, Judy Chicago,Friedrich Nietzsche, Francis Alÿs, Michel Foucault, Kristin Lucas, Mike Smith and Chantal Mouffe.

AiR-Jakobstad

The Residency was started 1996 by Svenska Konstskolans Vänner, which was a support oganisation for students at Svenska Konstskolan i Nykarleby - nowdays the the Fine Arts education (BA) at Novia University of Applied Sciences.

Until 2012 the residency was located in Nykarleby.

In August 2012 both the educaton and the residency moved to Jakobstad and the new Campus Allegro which houses several educations as well as cultural venues. The AiR and its related projects (workshops, Artist talks etc.) continues in Jakobstad under the adjusted name (AiR-Jakobstad) and a new organisation.

AiR-Jakobstad is currently mainly an artist run initiative with continued connections to the fine arts education at Novia UAS and close collaboration with the city of Jakobstad.

We also collaborate closely with the local art society Konstverket and thus also with their exhibition programme Gro. At the moment we accept about 4-6 artists annually. The main part of our artists in residence, is the result of established contacts and collaborations. However we do at times accept applications from artists not being within our network of contacts. We do not advertise for any open calls and nor have we any specific dates for application deadlines. More information about applications can be acquired robert.back[at]novia.fi

Our guest apartment is provided by the city of Jakobstad and located at the "old fire station". It's very much in the city centre and about 500 m from the Campus Allegro (Novia UAS) where it's possible to have access to studios, workshops and equipment.
